Challenge
To revitalise the financial services sector by giving voice to innovators and support industry transformation through policy and regulatory change, driving investment into and supporting collaboration across the sector. The goal was to shine a light on UK fintech and create a financial services sector that was more transparent, sustainable, inclusive and competitive.
Solution
- Secured political backing from Number 10 and the Treasury
- Sourced start-up funding from City of London Corporation and Canary Wharf Group
- Wrote the vision, manifestor and built the brand
- Created the governance board & processes, membership offering and programming, business development and marketing strategy
- Built the team and on-boarded a new CEO
- In partnership with the Treasury, we ran policy roundtables on blockchain risks and opportunities, healthy competition, payments regulation and the potential of open banking
- Worked with the regulator on innovation sandbox services
As the founding CEO, Claire Cockerton was the spokesperson for Innovate Finance in the media and at major conferences.
Results
- Launched in 2015 with 50 Fintech founders
- Built the membership base to 250 paying Fintech and banking firms, large and small.
- Drove corporate / start-up partnerships
- Filled trade mission with Boris Johnson (then Mayor of London) promoting UK Fintech internationally
- Created the inaugural global Fintech thought leadership summit at Guildhall, now an annual event
- Designed and launched the FinTech 101 course for the Open University
- Contributed to increased investment, quality jobs & positive publicity for UK Fintech
- By fostering innovation, better technology and more competition, Innovate Finance improves value for money to consumers of financial services
